BizTalk Server 2004 Insight -- virus software defeated my SMTP port

I created an SMTP port and kept getting a message in the server's application log (event viewer) like this when my orchestration tried to send an email:

The adapter failed on an attempt to transmit a message going to send port with the address "pgalvin@issgroup.net". Details: "The message could not be sent to the SMTP server. The transport error code was 0x800ccc15. The server response was not available
".

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

It turns out this is the reason:

McAfee virus Scan version 8.0.0 (from the help->about).

To correct this:

  1. Go to the console (for me, right-click the systray icon and select console from the pop-up menu).

  2. Select "Access Protection"

  3. On the "Port Blocking" tab, de-select "Prevent mass mailing worms from sending email" on port 25.
